If I bought everything I wanted when cruising isles in the Disney gift shops, I would spend more on t-shirts and jewelry than I spent on our resort room. One of my best pieces of advice is for people making vacation budgets is to add more to the amount set aside for souvenirs. Kids and adults alike will easily overspend, and it’s too easy to do because all their merchandise is so enticing. Souvenirs are expensive at Disney, so where will you get the money? And do you always have to pay retail?

Disney World is like a huge red carpet of Mouse fashion. You won’t be able to turn five feet without seeing someone with a Disney character on their shirt or on their head. This can be intimidating for first time travelers or even long time travelers; you feel the pressure to be dressed like everybody else, and everybody else seems to have paid for Mickey items to show off on vacation. 

And covered in bright colors and shiny sequins, Mouse Ear Hats are now all the rage. They aren’t the least expensive items you’ll find in gift shops, but they are cheaper than many other items like $49.00 sweatshirts and $125.00 sterling silver necklaces.

Disney World Preferred Parking: Do You Need It?

Disney World rolled out a preferred parking program back in 2016, allowing theme park visitors to get a closer parking spot at entrances to all four of their theme parks. Other theme parks in Orlando have charged for preferred parking for years. Regular car parking at Universal Studio’s garage is $20, with a preferred “Prime Parking” upgrade cost of $30(total). Universal offers valet parking ranging from $20 to $50 depending on how long you park your car. SeaWorld parking is $18, with a preferred parking upgrade cost of $23(total).
