Planning a Disney World Proposal: A Cheapskate Princess Guide

Updated for 2018!

Weddings in general are expensive. The average cost of a wedding in the United States these days is over $25,000, but a proposal is something that can be done for free. It’s easy to think about Disney vacations as a fun time for the group to ride roller coasters and over look the romantic and unusual places Disney has to offer for a proposal. [Read more…]

Screen Shot 2014-04-07 at 5.50.03 PM

As if you haven’t paid enough for Disney World tickets, accommodations, travel expenses, and food, then you will pay a small fortune for Disney souvenirs and gifts while you are on vacation. You almost always get what you pay for in terms of a good quality item, but Disney gift shop merchandise is expensive. One question you occasionally see on Disney Internet forums is, “Can you get coupons for souvenirs and merchandise at Disney World and Disneyland?” While not all the time, the answer is yes, but you have to actually be there to get them.

120 Walt Disney World DO NOTs: Tips From Real People on How NOT to Screw Up a Disney Vacation!

Disney World Do Nots List

Updated for 2018!

There are some great “101 Best Disney Tips” lists floating around out there on the Internet. You’ve probably read them; they’re good material with solid information. But they were each written by just one person, from the vantage point of that one person. My ideal Disney article would be to write about waking up at noon, resort swimming until say five.ish, then heading over to the Magic Kingdom and staying up until 4 a.m. Now do that four days straight, because that was my greatest Disney vacation EVER. But my particular vantage point might not be what you are looking for to help plan your next Disney vacation.

I like to hear opinions from all sorts of  people who have been there and done that, so we asked this question to our Cheapskate Princess Facebook Fans:

“What you would tell your friends NOT to do at Walt Disney World?”

And that’s how we came up with this spectacular list, by real people who travel to Disney World a good bit. [Read more…]

Disney’s Senses Spa at the Grand Floridian Resort: How to Go for Cheap!

Senses Spa wet room

Updated for 2017!

Cheap is a relative term; we’ll get to that in a minute.

I think that old saying about needing “a vacation from your vacation” probably originated from a trip to a theme park at peak capacity. Sometimes, a Disney Princess just wants to get away from it all and spend some quality time being pampered. What better place to spend a few hours of  princess-pampering time than the newly “re-imagined” Senses Spa at the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. If you’ve looked into accommodation pricing there lately, you know this place is like on the top-tier of Disney Resort room pricing.

So can you afford a trip to the Senses Spa?

You might be surprised! [Read more…]

How Can You Save Money on Disney World Souvenirs? One Four Letter Word…

Updated for 2018!

I am always lookin’ for a bargain. While I love to shop in the Disney World gift shops, to say merchandise is really pricey is probably an understatement. I joke that I could easily drop $1,000 in any given gift shop, but it’s really not a joke, especially if any of that merchandise is jewelry or a high-end handbag. Expensive is putting it mildly, especially after you just spent a fortune on tickets, lodging and food. And when you walk into a gift shop, suddenly you need all sorts of stuff you never even thought you might want. Temptation is everywhere. [Read more…]

Gotta Have it! 12 Cheapskate Extravagances at Walt Disney World

best things to spend money on at Disney World

Updated for 2018!

There is no one size fits all Disney vacation. You can customize your trip to fit your needs and desires, sprinkling as much Pixie Dust as you can afford to spread. From Value to Deluxe Resorts, standard park tickets to Annual Passes, and Signature Restaurants to cereal in your hotel room, there is seemingly no end to the choices you can make concerning your Disney experience.

I always believe it’s a good idea to ask real people who spend lots of hard-earned money on vacations what they thought of experiences, accommodations, and purchases before I decide where and when to drop my Disney money. We asked our Cheapskate Princess Facebook fans, “What is the one thing you’ll spend money on for a Disney vacation, even if it’s pricey?
