2016 Beach Princess: Need to Entertain Teens at the Beach? Take ’em Fishing!

caribe-the-resort-orange-beach-alabamaOctober 2016

We are not a family of fishermen. I’ve grown up on lower Alabama lakes and rivers, Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico, and I can count on one hand the number of times I have held a fishing pole in my hands. Fisherwoman I am not; vacation gal, I certainly am. Our family has stayed at Caribe the Resort in Orange Beach, Alabama, numerous times, and never once did I think about fishing.

But my sons and my husband took some poles on a short October Caribe trip in 2016, and this turned out to be fantastic entertainment for the teens. [Read more…]

2016 Beach Princess: Enjoying Caribe with a Rental from Luxury Coastal Vacations

luxury-costal-vacationsOctober 2016

We have been staying at Caribe the Resort in Orange Beach Alabama for years, but we usually stick to our usual rental sources who advertise through VRBO.com. My husband found a deal from Luxury Coastal Vacations for a mid-October 2016 stay, and we were really happy with the service and accommodations. [Read more…]

Save Money on Food While Vacationing at the Alabama Beaches? Cook it Yourself!

caribe-lifeOctober 2016

It’s my firm belief that you can find a pretty cheap place to rent at the beach, but saving money on food is still hard to do, especially if you go out to eat on vacation. Locals know where to go that won’t charge you “tourist prices,” but food is still pretty expensive anywhere. Our family has found that when you travel 40 minutes down the road for a beach stay, you can save money by cooking some of your own meals.

You will need to do some prep work. Cooking for yourself is never as easy as pulling up to a restaurant and placing your order.

Caribe the Resort in particular, located in Orange Beach, Alabama, has some nice grills with a fantastic view. Cooking burgers in your backyard isn’t all that exciting, but check out this scenery…

Caribe has a nice gazebo where you can sit if you are not the one doing the grilling. I dot some work done while I waited for my dinner.

I also took some walks while the grilling took place. This sure doesn’t look like walking around my neighborhood.

The results of cooking your own meals can be both yummy and less expensive than dining out.

Now some of the food you purchase at the grocery store can be expensive, like a $10 steak, but that steak will cost you $30 in local restaurants, so it’s still a savings.

While I think it’s nice to go out to eat on vacation, you just can’t get a view like this in most restaurants, so who leave the condo?

There are so many places to stay in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach in Alabama. Getting quotes from multiple rental sources can help you find a lower price, and cooking your own food can save your group some money. You’ll come home rested and relaxed, and that’s usually when I start thinking about heading to Orlando, where I come home sore from walking and ready for a trip to the beach again…

The Beach Club Gulf

September, 2016

The Beach Princess headed down Fort Morgan Road in Alabama to an amazing resort called The Beach Club. 120 Walt Disney World DO NOTs: Tips From Real People on How NOT to Screw Up a Disney Vacation!

Disney World Do Nots List

Updated for 2018!

There are some great “101 Best Disney Tips” lists floating around out there on the Internet. You’ve probably read them; they’re good material with solid information. But they were each written by just one person, from the vantage point of that one person. My ideal Disney article would be to write about waking up at noon, resort swimming until say five.ish, then heading over to the Magic Kingdom and staying up until 4 a.m. Now do that four days straight, because that was my greatest Disney vacation EVER. But my particular vantage point might not be what you are looking for to help plan your next Disney vacation.

I like to hear opinions from all sorts of  people who have been there and done that, so we asked this question to our Cheapskate Princess Facebook Fans:

“What you would tell your friends NOT to do at Walt Disney World?”

And that’s how we came up with this spectacular list, by real people who travel to Disney World a good bit. [Read more…]

Beach Princess: Saving Money on a Girls’ Weekend!

Caribe ResortJune 2016

Right next to the Pass Bridge in Orange Beach, Alabama, is a massive resort complex called Caribe the Resort. Located on over 30 acres of a peninsula, Caribe features more amenities than any resorts in the area, including 40,000 sq. feet of pools, lazy river, tennis courts, saunas and steam rooms, game room, and private beach cart service. There is a five-star restaurant next door called Cobalt. This beach getaway is absolutely amazing, and it’s also very expensive. Early summer rates per night start around $500-$600 and only go up from there.

Yikes.

Need a Reason to Visit Disney’s Aulani Resort? How About the Pools!

Visiting Hawaii will be a once in a lifetime trip for many people, so it’s easy to see why staying at Disney’s Aulani Resort resides at the top of many vacation bucket lists. If you need a reason to plan a trip, look no further than the pools.

Ka Maka Grotto is a family pool at Aulani with views straight out to the ocean, with water flowing over an infinity edge overlooking the beach. The pool water of Ka Maka Grotto is approximately 82 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit year round. This pool is free to enjoy with your stay.

This is a fabulous location to watch the sun go down on a fun-filled day.

The Wailana Pool is for guests 18 years of age and above, and it’s located a little further back from the main pools. This quiet pool features 1,500-square-foot, tension-edge pool with a water wall that empties into the deep end. Tropical shade trees are a highlight of this area, plus there are lots of umbrella covered lounge chairs just perfect for reading a book or napping. There are children running and playing all over Aulani, so if you want some alone time, this is your perfect location.

Kayaking in 2016!
