Sprinkles Cupcakes at Disney Springs

Updated for 2018!

Sprinkles opened in Disney Springs back in 2016. I love the name. Sprinkles sounds so happy! And while I am possibly the biggest cupcake fan who ever set foot on Disney property, my advice for the Sprinkles is to go for the view but skip the cupcake.

Nobody had their sugar-craving high hopes dashed like mine. So what happened?

There seem to be no shortage of Spinkles fans. Their website proudly proclaims, “Since we opened the world’s first cupcake bakery in Beverly Hills, our freshly baked treats have inspired long lines of devoted Hollywood stars and serious epicureans alike.”

They have a huge list of cupcake yumminess to love:

  • handcrafted
  • finest ingredients
  • sweet cream butter
  • bittersweet Belgian chocolate
  • pure Madagascar Bourbon vanilla
  • fresh bananas and carrots
  • real strawberries
  • natural citrus zests

All that sounds good to me. The cupcakes are topped with Sprinkles’ trademark modern dots, rich chocolate sprinkles from France or seasonal sugar decorations. They describe their cupcakes as “a deliciously sophisticated update on an American classic.” My pallet is not all that sophisticated, but I am all about delicious.

They offer several high-profile endorsements from far bigger food critics than moi.

“the world’s first cupcake bakery” – Food Network

“the progenitor of the haute cupcake craze” – Los Angeles Times

“most cupcake bakeries take their inspiration from Sprinkles” – The Washington Post

I am but a little fish in the cupcake critiquing pond. Clearly people love these goodies, and given my location in the other L.A. (Lower Alabama to those people in other parts of the United States who don’t shout Roll Tide in Wal-mart to everyone you see), there’s no Sprinkles locations within an eight-hour drive of our home. We would have to head to Nashville or Atlanta to partake.

So when Sprinkles opened in Disney Springs, it was one of my first stops on a recent vacation. It’s designer cupcakes, man, and I was so excited!

There is a cupcake ATM in the front of the store.

We headed inside to pick out our items. I picked out chocolate marshmallow. Join me in admiring…this here is a good-looking cupcake.

In fact, they offer nothing but row after row of good-looking cupcakes. I have been accused for years of eating with my eyes (sorry asparagus and rib eye steak, I tried…) so one would think I would have been in Disney Sweets Heaven.

They offer a lot of flavors, but the corporate website says they have “*limited flavor selection at Sprinkles Disney Springs.” So people are eating these flavors in a Sprinkles location somewhere, just not always Disney Springs.

Lets’s chat about my cupcake.

While it was good-looking, it was small. And at $4.99, the smallness was quite noticeable, because we usually share our snacks. Splitting this cupcake in half was do-able, but not in our usual fourths. My half was small.

And sorry to those Sprinkles fans, but I didn’t overwhelmingly enjoy the taste. It was just ok, and unlike a lot of snacks at Disney World, I certainly didn’t feel like I got what I paid for. Just so-so.

Let’s move on to the view…

The patio area is spectacular, with a fantastic view of the new Springs. There is lots of table space with umbrellas for shade. Look at that water. The building design is even cute.

The patio area looks over the Raglan Road restaurant area, and it’s just beautiful here at night with the soft lighting.

Would I pick up a cupcake from the ATM? No, even if I liked them, because walking off with a cupcake doesn’t give you the Springs view. The snack ATM concept is hilarious though, and when Goofy’s Candy Co. at Disney Springs puts in one, I’ll be the first person in line to buy three. That Goofy’s now, they know how to make a cupcake…

While I’m not going to rave about snack, my son said his milkshake was tasty, and it was larger than the cupcake for not much more money.

When we go back – that’s not an if, it’s definitely a when, because I want to sit on the waterfront patio again –  I plan to skip the cupcake and go for some ice cream.

If you want to take the Sprinkles magic home with you, buy some of their mix on the way out the door. Making your own snacks will be more economical and produce more. (Did you pick up on where I said my $4.99 cupcake was small?!)

Just when I told myself there was no need to sign up, I realized ice cream counted toward a freebie.

We really enjoyed sitting outside on the deck; I can see myself there again with an ice cream or a cookie in hand. You should order a cupcake – my one disappointed opinion doesn’t mean you shouldn’t experience it for yourself. $4.99 for anything at Disney World is certainly affordable, but you better not go hungry. In fact, I would take a snack in your bag to eat after your cupcake. Some of you many need two extra snacks post-cupcake.

We asked our readers what they thought about Sprinkles.

Kayla, “We used the cupcake ATM and then took our snacks to the patio and enjoyed the view. I like you, love a good cupcake, and was not impressed. I had the coconut and it was good, but nothing worth raving about!”

Stacey, “There was a promotion at the time of their opening that gave all those who signed up for their rewards program a free cupcake. We were headed to Disney soon after the promotion was announced, so my husband and I registered. We had a hard time finding the store; we finally found it and got our two free cupcakes to share with our three kids. The cupcakes were small. We each got a nibble and one of my kids bummed some cupcake off my father-in-law who also got in on the freebie.

My own homemade cupcakes are far better than these. We would NEVER pay $4.99 for their cupcakes. We’ll save that money and go to Hollywood Studios to get a chocolate peanut butter Darth Vader cupcake. It is at least 10 times better than the ones at Sprinkles!

The view was great and after we finished eating we had our picture taken on the bridge by a Disney Photo Pass photographer. The background in the picture is gorgeous. You’d never guess you’re at a shopping mall.”

Leave us a comment, and let us know if you loved your Sprinkles experience and what you ordered. Thanks for stopping by, and we’ll see you ordering…something, and taking a seat on that fantastic outdoor deck. If you see a woman eating Hot Fries holding an ice cream, please say hi…
