Updated for 2018!
Ever thought about renting a surrey bike on Disney vacation? They are not as expensive as you would think.

Surrey bicycles have been found on some of the Disney resort properties for at least 15 years, back when my children were super small and could fit still in the front basket seating. They are all taller than me now, and we’d be lucky to fit our bags into that seat.

As you can see by the photo of the sign, a single surrey bike rental is $25 per half hour (2018 prices). That’s probably two adults pedaling with two toddlers in the super small kids’ bench on the front. Children ages two through six would be a good age for these seats; any older and they may not fit comfortably. You might tuck another child in there somewhere between someone, but it will be a tight fit.

The double surrey bike rental is also $25 per half hour (2018 prices), with an extra bench seat to fit larger groups.
The $25 includes tax.

I’m nut sure $25 per half hour would be considered “cheap” in the real world beyond the Disney gates, but in terms of activities at Disney World, surrey bike rentals are definitely cheaper than other activities. I’ve visited a lot of places through the years, and no where besides Disney was I offered the opportunity to rent a surrey bike. I’d say once in a lifetime for $25 would then pretty much be considered a bargain.

Remember these prices can change without notice.

If you want the opportunity to bike-cruise along the banks of the Sassagoula River, pedal down the promenade by Barefoot Bay, or wheel around a woodland trail, rental locations (January 2018) currently include the following resorts:

Disney’s Boardwalk Inn
Disney’s BoardWalk Villas
Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
Disney’s Old Key West Resort
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter
Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside
Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort

If seeing Disney from the viewpoint of looking over bike tires is something you’d enjoy, this is actually a less expensive activity than renting a traditional bike.

Traditional bike rentals are $18 per bike, which is not the bargain the surrey bike then becomes.

Some Tips:

There are two steering wheels, but only wheel actually steers the bike. This may take some getting used to, so put your most responsible driver behind the wheel.

The Surrey rental booth is open from 8:30 am – 10pm daily, weather permitting. I would call the resort where you plan to rent to double check the times.

What a great activity for a day when you have no park tickets, like the day you arrive or leave, or a middle of the vacation day when you hang out by the resort pool. There’s nothing like a ride around a resort on a surrey bike to get you planning your next vacation.
