what to do at Disney World at night

If you have watched the 10 p.m. fireworks show at Magic Kingdom since way back in 2003, then you’ve seen “Wishes.” How much longer will it be at Magic Kingdom? Not long.

In fact, it’s already gone, but it’s still fun to look back and remember.

Narrated by Jiminy Cricket and including a fly-over appearance by Tinkerbell, Wishes was the first major Walt Disney World production created by Steve Davidson, the man who then went on to create World of Color and Disneyland Forever for California. If you were vacationing during the fall holidays, you saw HalloWishes and Holiday Wishes, simply variations on the Wishes theme.

Changes, which frequently occur when we’re talking about Disney vacations, are coming to the late night fireworks, and Wishes will have its final fun on May 11th. I’ve learned to roll with the changes at Disney World. 14 years is a long time to see the same show on every visit, so I’m looking forward to something new, even if I’ll miss the original Wishes. 10 p.m. fireworks followed by the projection show on the castle since its debut has been a standard in our family since my children were very young. Changes is often hard, but good times are on the horizon.

We watched Wishes from the back of the castle where the crowds were far lighter, so my pictures look far different from those taken from the front view near Main Street.

Let’s take a look back at the dialogue.

When stars are born, they possess a gift or two.
One of those is, they have the power to make a wish come true.

Star light, star bright,
first star I see tonight.
I wish I may, I wish I might,
have the wish, I wish tonight.
We’ll make a wish, and do as dreamers do,
and all our wishes (all our wishes),
will come true.

When you wish, upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires will come…to…you.

Pretty, huh? I’ll bet a lot of you folks don’t believe that, about a wish coming true, do ya? We’ll I didn’t either.
Course, I’m just a cricket, but lemme tell you what made me change my mind.
You see, the most fantastic, magical things can happen, and it all starts with a wish! (Tinker Bell flies down)

If your heart is in your dreams,

[CINDERELLA] I wish…I could go to the ball

[SNOW WHITE] I’m wishing…someday, my prince will come

No request is too extreme,

[ARIEL] Ha-ha. I wish…Ohh…I wish I could be part of that world

[PETER PAN] I wish…we’d never have to grow up. Off to Neverland, ha-ha

When you wish upon a star,
As dreamers do.

[PINOCCHIO] Look Jiminy, someday I wish I could be a real boy

[ALADDIN] Genie, I wish for your freedom

JIMINY – You know, any wish is possible.
All it takes is a little courage, to set it free

A wish is a powerful thing, especially when it comes from the heart.

Fate is kind.
She brings to those who love,
The sweet fulfilment of their secret longing.

Like a bolt out of the blue, fate steps in and sees you through. When you wish upon a star, your dreams…come true.
Sometimes, wishes can be granted in the most unexpected ways.

Whoa! 10,000 Years can give ya such a crick in the neck. Hello people, up here, come on, we’ve got some wishes to grant!

Uh oh, now don’t worry. Just remember, always let your conscience be your guide.
Let your conscience be your guide…let your conscience be your guide…

Disney Wishes fireworks show ending

Slaves in the magic mirror, come from the farthest space. Through wind and darkness, I summon thee.
Let me see thy face.
A blast of wind, to find my fate. A thunderbolt, to cast my spell. Alas, grant me my wish as well.

You know folks, you gotta be careful what you wish for around here, or you’ll get yourself in an awful mess.
But just when things look bad, fate steps in to see you through.
We’ll I’ll be, it’s the Blue Fairy!

Remember, we must always believe in our wishes, for they are the magic in the world.
Now, let’s all put our hearts together, and make a wish come true.

Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight.
I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish, I wish tonight.
We’ll make a wish, and do as dreamers do, and all our wishes,
will come true.

You see, its just like I told ya. Wishes can come true, if you believe in them with all your heart.
And the best part is, you’ll never run out of wishes. They’re shining deep down inside of you.
‘Cause that my friends is where the magic lives

Disney ‘Wishes’ Exit Music Lyrics

Thanks folks, for making this little gathering of ours so extra magical.
From our family and friends to yours, goodnight, and may all your wishes come true. So long!

Star light, star bright, First star I see tonight I wish I may, I wish I might, Have the wish, I wish tonight

Oh, a world of wishes. A world where dreams come true.
So make a wish, see it through. Dare to do what dreamers do

Wishes, Dream a dream, Wishes, Set it free, Wishes, Trust your heart, Just believe

We’re all just children, reaching for our dreams. There shining high above us, and even though it seems, so far (so far).
We put our faith and hope on a shooting star.

Wishes, Dream a dream, Wishes, Set it free, Wishes, Trust your heart, Just believe (oh, believe)

Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may I wish I might , have the wish I wish tonight
We’ll make a wish, and do as dreamers do, and all our wishes (all our wishes)
all our wishes, will come true

Oh, wishes

The new “Happily Ever After” nighttime spectacular debuted on May 12.

The Disney Parks Blog says the new fireworks show “inspires guests to seek out and find their own ‘Happily Ever After’ by showcasing some of the greatest adventures Disney characters have taken to achieve their dreams. The show features the latest fireworks and pyrotechnics and original animation, plus a heart-tugging original score.”

Happily Ever After utilizes the same video projection mapping on Cinderella Castle and guests can look for the incorporation of characters from Moana, Brave, Big Hero 6, Zootopia, The Princess & The Frog and Aladdin.

Planning a trip to Disney World? You’ll want to make time for the 9 pm fireworks show. For us old-timers, it’s time to start making some new nighttime memories.

Thanks for stopping by, and we’ll see you finding a spot for the fireworks show…
