Glow with the Show Disney World hats

Disney World and Disneyland are both vacation fashion runways. Turn your head in any direction, and you are sure to see Mickey Mouse t-shirts, jewelry, and character hats. In October of 2013, Hollywood Studios became the first WDW location to introduce the addition of “Glow With the Show” ear technology into the “Fantasmic!” show.

Glow with the Show is a special merchandise offered now at the Magic Kingdom and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The Glow with the Show hats were designed as an innovative way for wearers to interact with some of the beautiful after-dark activities. The Ears, which are technologically advanced pieces of apparel, (say that 6 times fast)  have been programmed to light up at key moments, matching the colors and flashing to the beat of the music throughout a variety of popular evening shows.

We asked our  Cheapskate Princess Facebook Fans if they would buy the hats to wear on vacation again. Their answers could help you decide if you want to purchase a pair on your next vacation.

Sandra, “That’s a big negative! Even my 7-year-old last Spring Break said no to it once she saw how much the hat costs!”

Lisa,  “Nope! They are too much and from what I hear, very heavy on the head.”

Tina, “We just got home from Disney World, and the answer is NO.”

Mia, “They are cool but not comfortable; they are awkward to wear.”

Pat, “No, our money is better spent on things that will actually be used once we get home.”

Julie, “They are very heavy and don’t fit very well anyone in our family. We got a pair for free; I would not buy them.”

Shannon, “We have three pairs. They are heavy though and not comfortable to wear throughout the day.

Angela, “We did two years ago and have used them at Disneyland and WDW. We love them – they are so much fun.

Michelle, “Yes I would pay for a pair. However I found three pairs at Goodwill for $1.99, and they work!”

Judee, So I was there in December.  I bought four of them, one each for me, my son, my niece and my nephew. It cost over $100.00 for the hats, but it was worth it. We have pictures of the four of us with our glow lights on. We had a great time during the Osborne lights glowing along with the show! Priceless memories!”

Jessica, My Disney Daughter loves hers!”

Katharine, “Love mine! People always compliment them! I collect all the light up hats.”

Meredith, “I paid for a hat. For me it was truly worth it. You can’t go somewhere like Disney and expect to pay Wal-mart prices. It’s Disney, and a trip of a lifetime for and my kids!”

Heather “I would not have purchased one before going, but by the end of our last trip, I was kind of sad we didn’t have a pair. They were really cool, especially during shows.”

Jessica, “I already HAVE!  Best merchandise purchase I ever made!

Tanya, “We bought a pair, but they are tough to wear for my kids. I love them though.

Lisa,”YES! My son got a pair, and it was really fun for all of us to watch his ears glow and change color and rhythm through Fantasmic!

No – Too Uncomfortable

Many of our Cheapskate Princess Facebook Fans found the hats to be uncomfortable. They are definitely heavier than the regular open-top hat.

Lynette and Mike, “I bought my son and daughter a pair as we went into Fantasmic; they wore them for five minutes. They’re heavy and awkward.”

Jaime, “My hubby and I got them in December. They are heavy and weird to wear, but were so much fun during the Osborne lights.

Amy, “My kids both bought a pair last year, and the were very awkward & heavy to fit on the head. My daughter just cried because she had to sit perfectly still or they fell off. She was very disappointed, and there were times that they just didn’t work right. After we got home, we wrote to Disney and they paid for us to ship them back and gave us a full refund.”

Theresa, “We bought a pair last summer. They didn’t fit on my husband’s head & even I thought they were awkward, heavy & clunky! We used them just that one night & took them with us when we returned in October. They wouldn’t turn on because the batteries were dead! I was so disappointed!

Sharon, “We bought three hats last time, but the kids found them hard to wear.

10 Vacation Questions Answered by a Disney Travel Agent

will Disney moms like Glow with the show hats

Many of our Cheapskate Princess Facebook Fans found the hats simply too distracting during the shows.

Stephanie, “I love mine, but I got them with my Cast Member discount. Some guy at Wishes behind us complained about the hats. He didn’t get it.

Tonya, “No, I would not buy them. What’s bad is all the people who have to be distracted during shows and fireworks because of those mouse ears.”

Kelly, “I’ll be honest, they’re cool and everything, but we found them kind of distracting during shows like Fantasmic that are meant to be dark at times.  You have all these ears lit up and flashing at you. Still, they are super cool and totally Disney, but for the distraction to those around you, I don’t think it’s worth it.”

Cheapskate Tip

Heather suggests, “Search eBay and buy used if you want the hats for a trip, and then resell them!
