Disney World Extravagance: Helzberg’s Enchanted by Disney Jewelry Line

helzberg-disney-jewelry-collection

Updated for 2017!

If you can find some room in your Disney vacation budget to bring home a nice souvenir, jewelry is often great choice. Prices can range from $10 to over $4,000, both in the on-property gift shops and online at the Disney Store. If you spend a lot of time in the parks, you will notice that the same jewelry will hang around for sale for years. Let’s take a look at something different from the usual gift shop merchandise, and you won’t even have to set foot in a park to make a purchase.

Helzberg Jewelry opened their first store in Kansas City in 1915. They are one of the oldest jewelry chains in America, and they have a brand new line of Disney inspired jewelry designs. We’ll take a look at some of their new designs priced from $49.99 to $1299.

Christmas Eve and Day At Disney World: How Crazy are the Wait Times?!

wait-times-at-disney-world-during-christmas

Several years ago, our family went to Orlando during the week of Christmas. You know, that week that I literally tell people they are crazzzzzyyyy to visit Disney World because of the crowds. But we only had one days worth of tickets, and we went early in the week.

Just how nuts can things get the week of Christmas? More specifically, how busy will it be on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day? Let’s talk about wait times, because there will be BOO COODLES of people wandering the parks and resorts, and most of that time, they will be standing in line with you, elbow to elbow, cell phone to iPad.

I wrote down wait-times that holiday week at certain points during the day just to give you some perspective.

Disney Souvenirs Under $10? Lollypops!

Updated for 2017!

Disney World vacation souvenirs are expensive. As soon as you announce plans for your upcoming Orlando trip, friends will start casually saying, “Hey, bring me something back from Disney World.” Well now the pressure is on, and you have to decide if you will spend the big bucks or look for small trinkets. $35 t-shirts and $59 sweatshirts will kill your budget; I don’t always fit those items in my budget for myself. You may need something way less expensive.

I spent a lot of time looking around the gift shops as a child in the 70s, and these items remind me of childhood vacations munching on candy we could afford to buy in the parks. You know kids usually can’t afford much else.

Say hello to the Disney lollypops! [Read more…]

This summer, while Pokemon players were walking around collecting virtual Pokemons, I got busy winning Disney emojis I can send to my friends in texts. Granted, they are not a prize I can hold in my hand, but I can insert them into text after text, and there are hundreds to collect.

As soon as I saw the Disney emojis, I knew I had to have them. And best of all, unless you just really feel the need to play extra games, the emojis are totally free!

Shopping for Disney Souvenirs at Walmart Can Save You Money!

Disney merchandise is expensive. You’ll be purchasing a solid product, but the price tag reflects the quality.

A great way to purchase Disney souvenirs, either before or after your vacation, is to make a stop in Wal-Mart. You could actually shop in Orlando for souvenirs, because they sell way more than your local store, but try your local Wal-Mart any time of the year just to see what’s in stock.

Merchandise will change often, but these photos will show you what’s been available before stock changed or prices went up.

Don’t Throw Out Those Old Disney World Souvenirs Just Yet…

Disney Vacation Club

Several years ago, I played a game at a Disney Vacation Club meeting and won some cool DVC stuff, like a lunch bag, a bottle cover, and a license plate frame. That frame has graced my license plate for so long, the sun bleached out the letters. I contemplated throwing it away, but I have a hard time getting rid of sentimental items. Sound familiar?! After a quick peek on eBay, there are currently none of these frames for sale. And those DVC games are long gone.

The DVC license plate frames were never for sale to begin with, but it seems I can’t buy one if I wanted. Now this has turned into a cheapskate dilemma.

Disney Springs’ Boathouse Restaurant: Tips for Dining Under $20

Boathouse Restaurant at Disney Sorings for less

Updated for 2017!

I don’t mind admitting I was intimidated by the Boathouse restaurant at Disney Springs. The Internet was abuzz with chatter about the prices almost before the doors opened, and the menu just shouted fru fru to my immature pallet. Foodie is the last word people use to describe me, but we gave it a whirl on a trip to Orlando, with the intentions of seeing what you can get for under $20 a person. You won’t get a steak or a lobster, both of which they offer, but there’s definitely meals aplenty for under $20.
