6 Reasons to Schedule a Haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop at Disney’s Magic Kingdom

Disney World Harmony Barber Shop
Updated October 2016!
Time is money at Walt Disney World. While many of us joke about living there forever, money will only buy you a certain amount of time in Orlando. Ideas for what you do with that time are not endless, but there sure are a lot of ways to have fun. Getting a hair cut has never made my personal list of fun. Photos of kids with fun haircuts from The Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street U.S.A., at the Magic Kingdom have been popping up more frequently on Facebook. When you compare the prices for many special experiences at Disney World, it turns out a haircut at this location is not crazy expensive.
Not thrilled about the idea of getting your hair cut on vacation by someone you don’t know? Not sure you want to take time away from shows and rides to get a haircut? Photos from Cheapskate Princess Facebook fans and My Dreams of Disney Facebook fans may change your mind.

Here are six reasons why you should make a reservation for a haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop at the Magic Kingdom.

Should You Get a Haircut at Walt Disney World? For $20, with Pixie Dust and Stickers, Yes!

1. Great Place for a 1st Haircut

Cheapskate Princess Facebook fan Julie Beck sent us this photo of her daughter, and she told us about her experience taking a toddler for a trim.

“Here is my daughter Anne getting her first real haircut at the Harmony Barber Shop back in March 2011. I am the one with all the stickers. The Cast Member who worked with Anne was great, kept her distracted the whole time, and did a good job. Who can complain about a haircut AND Mickey ears for the price of just a haircut somewhere else. 🙂 We did the first appointment time of the day, so my son got a picture and an autograph with Daisy just outside during the wait. I am hoping to take their baby sister for her first cut there next spring.”

Cheapskate Princess Facebook fan Jeanette Villa took an even younger child for a first haircut, and look how happy she is! Actually they both look pleased!
“Here is my 5-month-old daughter getting her first hair cut in December 2011! We had an appointment first thing in the morning so she would be fed and happy. As we walked into the park, we grabbed a Disney photographer and they documented the whole thing for us. She cried for a few minutes but stopped after they showed her a light up Minnie. The package came with a certificate and a hat!”

The “My 1st Haircut” service

Most parents know by now that getting really small children to sit for a hair cut is often difficult if not impossible. “First Haircuts” are the Harmony Barber Shop’s specialty. Young WDW guests who receive their first haircut at the Magic Kingdom barbershop are treated to surprises from “pixie dust” and bubbles to Mickey Mouse stickers. You also get  an extra-special “My 1st Haircut” set of Mouse Ears and a certificate.

Have you priced Mouse Ear hats lately? This sounds like a fantastic deal for $19, with the haircut and hat combo, plus pixie dust, bubbles, and stickers. Cast Members may keep your child so distracted, there may not be time for the tears usually associated with first haircuts.

A haircut, a Mickey hat, and entertainment for $19. What a bargain!

2. They don’t just cut “male” hair at this barber shop.

Ladies, think  you can’t go in with your long flowing locks for a trim? Sure you can!

3. This can become a tradition

How about having haircuts over a series of years?  My Dreams of Disney Facebook Fan Mitra Niknam sent this photo of her son’s “My 1st Haircut” at Harmony Barber Shop from October in 2009.

Mitra sent this updated photo from December 2012. She said, “This is my favorite souvenir, hands down!”
Photos make such great souvenirs, saving those memories and first experiences, and photos are also some of the least expensive souvenirs from a vacation.

4. This is a cheaper alternative to dressing like a Pirate or a Princess

There are many people who say their children do not want to dress in full make up as a Pirate from the Pirate League (costs run between $34.95 to $79.95 ) or wear that tight pulled back style from the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique (with a starting cost of $59.95.) The Harmony Barber shop offers an alternative to anyone who wants to experience Disney’s dressing-up fun and excitement at a significantly lower cost.
My Dreams of Disney Facebook fan Crystal Summerlin sent us photos of both her children in the barber’s chair, one for an annual trim and another for a radical change.
“Our Disney Daughter has long hair, and the ladies at the Barbershop always do such a good job. We try to only get her hair cut during our annual trip. During our last trip, they actually wow-ed the kids by giving my Disney Husband a surprise glitter Mickey on the back of his head!”

Here are  My Dreams of Disney Facebook fan Crystal Summerlin’s kids after their haircuts.  “Two happy kids after our visit at the Harmony Barber shop. My biggest regret about the shop is not knowing about it before I had my kiddos’ hair cut for the 1st time.”  This is really a fabulous photo memory.

See, your little Disney Princess doesn’t have to be sporting the tight BBB bun and full length princess dress to be a princess at Disney World.

Nine Cheapskate Tips to Celebrate a Birthday at Walt Disney World for FREE!

When people ask if a Disney vacation is expensive, my stock answer is that everything costs more at Disney. From food, sunscreen, clothing to sometimes gas and groceries, depending on where you live,  most everything will seem like it costs more than you normally pay. But check out these haircut prices. My haircut costs $25, while my husband’s haircut is $20, and my pre-teenage kids hair costs $15 for a cut. For me, haircuts on Main Street, U.S.A., may not save me time, but they would save me money.

6. Prices aren’t as inflated as other experiences

The Harmony Barbershop Price Menu

Adult haircuts: $19

Child haircuts: $15 for children 12 and under

“My 1st Haircut” package: $19

(Colored hair gel for $5 and beard and mustache trims for $10 are not on the services offered list since 2015, but it couldn’t hurt to call and check.)

  1. Julie D says:

This is a great article, and I sure do love seeing my cute girl’s face in it!

  2. Tara says:

I’m so excited! I reserved our baby boy’s first haircut at The Harmony Barbershop on 1/72014. I really hope he enjoys it. I’m sure I’ll shed a few tears out of joy! He’ll be 21 months old and he really needs a trim, lol!

  3. Kaitlin says:

I made a reservation for 2 adults (actually aged 13 and 15 but the site said over 12 are adult cuts) and 3 kids (7, 11 and 12 ) however since they only have 2 reservation chairs i had to make 3 seperate reservations for 1, 1:30 and 2) i was wondering if they will allow the next two to go up after the first ones are done even if it isnt quite 1:30 yet? also is the haircut mandatory or can the boys just get the hair gel?

    • Amanda says:

I am pretty sure they will scoot them through as fast as they can, since their goal is to get as many hair cuts done each day as possible. And my info says colored hair gel is $5, so I think they can just get the gel without the cut. But to be sure, call Call (407) WDW-PLAY or (407) 939-7529 to confirm. Hope everything goes according to plan – let us know what you thought about the experience! And thanks for reading!

  4. Rebecca Curtis says:

I just returned from our latest trip to wdw and have been there more than a dozen times in the past 5 years. This was the first time we chose to try the barber shop at magic kingdom. I was sorely disappointed in the haircuts received by my husband and children. First of all at a barber shop I expect barbers not cosmetologists. Second of all my husband’s hair was buzz cut all one length – I really think I could have done a similar job with clippers and no training. Third my eldest son (4) was supposed to get a 4 on top and have it tapered down – what we actually got was the complete opposite. My 2 year old turned out ok but only because I felt I had to micromanage the cut. There were no stickers, no lolly pops, not fanfare – honestly I believe my kids have a better time at our local barber and the only extra they give is a dumdum lolly pop. I wouldn’t recommend or ever use this service again. But it is nice to know others have good experiences.

  5. Haley Ann says:

My family goes all the time!!! I even got my first hair cut there!! were really good friends with Michel there hes great!! I just can’t wait to tell him that I’m getting a pixie cute next time I go!! he will be so thrilled!! I just hope he can give me a pixie with fringe!!

  6. Erica says:

Does anyone know if they do styling? Can I ask for french braids, or something similar, for my niece and me?

  7. Rachel Smith says:

What age is the 1st haircut package up until please?

    • Amanda says:

My First Haircut package, $25, Child’s haircut (9 and under) $18 is all I can find, but you can call this number, (407) 939-7529, and maybe they can give you more info. I’m thinking 2 or 3 with longer hair, but that’s just me guessing. Hope you have a blast! ~A.
