Why Celebrate with a Birthday Button at Disney World? Let a Cheapskate Princess Tell You!

Disney birthday button, celebrate a birthday at Disney World, celebrate a birthday at Disneyland

Many Disney visitors are familiar with the Birthday Button you can pick up both Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Most guidebooks and website wisdom tells you that if you are celebrating a birthday at the Disney Parks, you should be sure to pick up a Birthday Button to get extra attention and possibly free treats from Cast Members. We asked the Cheapskate Princess fans if they had ever received anything extra special (translation = FREE!) for wearing their Birthday Buttons into the parks, and the answers were fabulous!  If you have ever thought about celebrating a birthday at a Disney park, here are some details about the free swag our fans picked up on their vacations.

Nine Cheapskate Tips to Celebrate a Birthday at Walt Disney World for FREE!

Some of our  Cheapskate Princess fans received a free dessert.

Jason, “I got a free dessert the entire week of my birthday at every sit down restaurant we ate at last year. Best birthday ever!”

Christina reminds us why you always need a camera, “For her 12th birthday, we took my daughter to Disneyland. The day we arrived, we had tickets to the special seating with desserts for Fantasmic. Eager to get to the parks, we dropped everything at the hotel and ran over. Later, we got to the designated seating area for the show, and the Disney Cast Member checking us in saw my daughter’s birthday button. He wished her a happy birthday and showed us to our seats. Fifteen minutes later the CM returned, this time with a giant piece of cake on a special Disney Plate with a candle on top. He asked my daughter to come with him for a moment, led her to the center of the crowd, and announced it was her birthday. He lit the candle and led the crowd in singing Happy Birthday to her. There she was in the dark, face lit by a candle, beaming as 5000.ish people sang, and there I was tearing up and realizing I didn’t have my camera. Naturally, she didn’t finish the cake because it was HUGE, so they packed it up for her, plate and all. She’ll be 19 next month, and we’ve still got the plate and wonderful memories of her 12th birthday.”

  2. Carol Davis says:

My husband and I took his daughter to Disney for her 17th birthday. While they were waiting for me on Main Street, a CM started a conversation about it being her birthday (at 17 years old, we sorta “forced” her to wear the pin)….then we were all invited to be grand marshalls for that day’s parade!!!!! SCORE!

  3. Jessica says:

When it was my birthday at Disneyland not only did I also get free chocolate mousse at the Blue Bayou, but every single cast member I walked by wished me a very happy birthday.

The best part though? When I was walking over to Twilight Zone Tower of Terror in California Adventure, there was a performance starting on that end of the Hollywood section. There were singers riding on a red trolley cart that was making its way to the new Carthay Circle. In the middle of their performance as they were making their way down the street one of the performers saw me with my birthday pin. There weren’t many other people around, just myself and my boyfriend, so I knew he was looking right at me.

And as he was singing, he wove the words, “Happy Birthday” INTO the song! I laughed and waved thank you to him and he just smiled as they continued their performance. I was completed stunned and overwhelmed that they would go to that great of lengths just to wish me a very simple happy birthday. It really made my day and my boyfriend and I talked about it all day afterwards. It was amazing! 😀 Definitely make my birthday that much more special 🙂

  4. Jennifer says:

Hi! I wanted to let you know that when we took our son for his 5th Birthday. We got him a Birthday Button – our other son got the “My First Time at Disney” button. We really got them as keepsakes, but we were really surprised at how much attention we received! Some of our freebies included:
-Cast member recognition DAILY “Happy Birthday, Skyler” (he LOVED that)
-Got to be the conductor on the train
-Special seating for the “Dance Down Disney” parade
    -Free desserts all week long
-A cast member gave him special fast passes that let him cut to the front of the line at his choice of ride immediately. (he choose Splash Mountain)
-He also was given a gift card for the cost of a ticket because we paid for him to get in. He spent it on some souvenirs

We really had a magical experiance

  5. Nikki says:

I was just wondering… I am Reading comments from people that are talking about days or even a whole week of free desserts or HB shout outs. Does that men you are aloud to wear that button for The length of your stay, instead of on The actual day of your birthday our anniversary?

    • Amanda says:

No one is matching the date of your birthday to your button to make sure you wore it on “the day.” Many people take “birthday trips” to celebrate a birthday, or anniversary or whatever, as a way of mixing travel with a party, so to speak. Kids especially like to wear the button more than one day- the choice is yours.

  6. Em says:

I celebrated my birthday at Disney this week and on my way in, the guy working the parking booth sang happy birthday to me and let us park for free! Saved me $20 🙂

  7. anushka mehta says:

hi we shall be celebrating our 19th birthday at magic kingdom ( me and my twin ) we are damn excited. is it okay if no pre reservations for the celebrations at park are done ?

    • Amanda says:

I think you’ll be find with no advance reservations, unless you want to eat somewhere besides counter service meals. I’d make reservations for that, and if you do, be sure to mention it’s your birthdays. Hope you both have a fabulous time!!

  8. May I simply say what a relief to uncover someone that really knows what they are discussing on the internet.

You definitely realize how to bring a problem to light and make it important.
A lot more people have to check this out and understand this
side of the story. It’s surprising you are not more popular given that you most certainly possess the gift.
