2015 Beach Princess: Enjoy an Orange Beach Waterfront Breakfast at Cobalt

Cobalt by Jean McKee

April, 2015

Driving through the Orange Beach area in lower Alabama? Then be sure to make plans to stop by Cobalt, the Restaurant located right next door to the Caribe Resort.

Two miles west of the Alabama/Florida state line, you’ll find Perdido Pass, which separates Alabama Point from Florida Point. Perdido Pass forms a water passage that connects Perdido Bay with the Gulf of Mexico in Orange Beach. A bridge spans Perdido Pass, with a walking path on one side.

Looking for free entertainment? Walk over the bridge and back. You are perfectly safe from traffic, separated from cars by a concrete barrier on one side and protected from the incredible height by a tall chain length fence on the other side. Joggers and walkers use this path all the time. The view of Perdido Pass is a sight you have to see from above to appreciate it.

Cobalt invites you to enjoy “contemporary coastal cuisine at its best.” Cobalt features authentic dishes crafted by renowned chefs in three distinct kitchens. If you would like to arrive by water, there are boat slips available for small boats to medium-sized yachts. Cobalt is known for a  waterfront dining in a casual and relaxing atmosphere, with superior service and occasional live music.

If you have to wait for a seat inside, what an adorable seating area.

Cobalt Breakfast Buffet

where to eat in Orange Beach Alabama

Their Monday – Saturday Breakfast Buffet offers child and adult friendly foods for a price that’s hard to pass up. $10 for adults and $5 for children includes your drink. Having paid upwards of $2.50 for drinks at tourist restaurants before, that’s a deal.

There are cereals available, but these are not Sugar Smacks and Froot Loops like kids envision when they think of cereals.

The Shrimp and Grits were a big favorite of my husband, while not much more than a kid at breakfast myself, I enjoyed the Chocolate Chip Scones.

Before you leave, if you didn’t sit outside, take a walk along the path by the boat dock.

How to save money?

Enjoy the Breakfast Buffet any day other than Sunday, when the cost for an adult is $19.99. The Sunday Buffet offers different food than the less expensive version served on other days.

  • shrimp & grits
  • herb encrusted pork loin topped with sautéed spinach & mushroom & garlic cream sauce
  • eggs benedict
  • andouille & caramelized onion strata
  • broccoli & bacon au gratin
  • vegetable medley
  • baked ziti with zucchini & Italian sausage & vodka sauce
  • roasted fingerling potatoes
  • creamy cauliflower salad
  • prime rib carving station
  • omelet station
  • mini muffins, croissants
  • marinated cucumbers, tomatoes, and a fresh green salad
  • dessert table with mini crème brulee, chocolate bread pudding, lemon-raspberry pound cake

Even cheapskates recognize you get what you pay for, and some of you might enjoy the serious Breakfast Buffet on Sunday. Personally, I prefer lighter breakfast foods, so the $10 menu is right up my alley.

Remember the menu and prices could change without any notice. I always recommend you call ahead to confirm the menu and operating hours.
